About this tool

A YouTube thumbnail is 1280×720 — 16:9, and under 2 MB. Anything else gets scaled by YouTube, usually with visible softening on text.

The channel banner is the awkward one: the image must be 2560×1440, but only the central 1546×423 is guaranteed visible, because the rest is cropped differently on TV, desktop and mobile. Keep anything that must be read inside that middle band.

Common uses

  • Making a thumbnail from a video still.
  • Preparing a channel banner that survives cropping.
  • Resizing artwork for a channel profile picture.
