Instagram Image Resizer
Resize a photo to Instagram's post, portrait, landscape, story or reel sizes.
Processing: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input and any file you open stay on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server.
How to use the instagram image resizer
- Open your image.
- Pick the target size from the list.
- Choose whether to crop to fill or fit the whole image, then download.
About this tool
Instagram re-compresses everything you upload, but it crops badly when the aspect ratio is wrong — which is why a photo that looked fine in your camera roll loses someone's head in a square post.
Resizing before upload puts that decision in your hands: crop to fill and choose what gets cut, or fit the whole picture inside the frame with a background colour. Uploading at exactly 1080 pixels wide also avoids Instagram's own downscale, which is heavier-handed than a browser's.
Common uses
- Preparing a landscape photo for a square post.
- Making a story-sized image from a normal photo.
- Fitting a whole image in frame without cropping.
Frequently asked questions
- What size should an Instagram post be?
- 1080×1080 for square, 1080×1350 for portrait — the portrait size takes up the most space in the feed — and 1080×566 for landscape.
- Why does Instagram crop my photo?
- It fits uploads into its supported ratios. Resizing to the exact size first means the crop is your choice rather than theirs.
