About this tool

FAQ structured data marks up questions and answers that already appear on the page. The markup does not create anything new — it tells search engines which text is the question and which is the answer.

Be realistic about the payoff. Since 2023 Google has shown FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites, so for most pages this will not produce the expanded snippet it once did. It remains useful as a clear description of your content, and it costs nothing, but it is no longer the traffic lever it was.

The rule that matters: every question and answer in the markup must be visible on the page. Marking up content a visitor cannot see is exactly what triggers a manual action.

Common uses

  • Marking up an existing FAQ section.
  • Describing product questions on a support page.
  • Making a help page's structure explicit to search engines.

Frequently asked questions

Will this get me FAQ rich results?
Probably not. Google restricted FAQ rich results to authoritative government and health sites in 2023. The markup is still valid and harmless, but expect no visual change for most sites.
Do the questions have to be on the page?
Yes. Structured data must match visible content. Marking up answers a visitor cannot see risks a manual action.
