Touchscreen Tester
Test a touchscreen for dead zones and check how many fingers it tracks at once.
Processing: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input and any file you open stay on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server.
How to use the touchscreen tester
- Drag one finger slowly over the whole test area.
- Look for gaps in the trail where your finger did not lift.
- Put several fingers down at once to check multi-touch.
About this tool
Drag a finger slowly across the whole area. A break in the trail where your finger never lifted marks a genuinely unresponsive patch — the most common physical fault in a touchscreen, and usually the result of a drop or a failing digitiser.
Each finger gets its own colour and identifier, so you can count how many the device tracks at once. Most phones handle 5 or 10; a laptop trackpad or touchscreen usually manages fewer.
Pressure is shown when the hardware measures it. Most devices do not, so “not reported” is the normal answer and says nothing about whether the screen is working.
Common uses
- Checking a cracked screen for dead zones before repair.
- Verifying multi-touch on a new or refurbished device.
- Testing a touchscreen monitor or kiosk display.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I find a dead zone?
- Drag slowly across the whole screen without lifting. Any gap in the trail is an area that did not register, which is a genuine hardware fault.
- How many fingers should my device track?
- Most phones and tablets handle 5 or 10 simultaneous touches. Fewer is normal on laptop touchscreens and trackpads.
- Why does pressure say 'not reported'?
- Most hardware does not measure it. The browser reports zero when there is no pressure sensor, which is not a fault.
