How to use the notification tester

  1. Grant permission when asked.
  2. Send a test notification.
  3. If it reports success but nothing appears, check your system Do Not Disturb.

About this tool

A notification can be stopped at three independent levels, which is why “notifications do not work” is so rarely a single problem: the site's permission, the browser's own settings, and the operating system's Do Not Disturb or Focus mode.

This page shows the first directly and lets you test through the other two. The informative case is a test that reports success while nothing appears on screen — that means the site permission and the browser are both fine, and the operating system is suppressing it.

One thing worth knowing before you press deny: browsers do not ask twice. Once refused, the site is blocked until you re-enable it manually in the site settings, usually through the icon in the address bar.

These are local notifications sent to your own device. There is no push service, no subscription, and no server.

Common uses

  • Working out why a site's notifications never arrive.
  • Confirming notifications work after changing settings.
  • Checking a managed or locked-down browser's configuration.

Frequently asked questions

I allowed notifications but nothing appears. Why?
Your operating system is suppressing them. Check Do Not Disturb on macOS, Focus Assist on Windows, and that your browser is permitted to show notifications in the system settings.
I denied permission by mistake. Can I undo it?
Yes, but not from the page — browsers never ask twice. Re-enable notifications for this site in the site settings, usually via the icon in the address bar.
Does this subscribe me to anything?
No. These are local notifications sent to your own device. There is no push service and no subscription.
