About this tool
This applies a Gaussian blur across the whole image, which suits backgrounds, banner treatments and low-resolution placeholder graphics.
One thing it is not suitable for: hiding sensitive information. A blur applied to a face or a document is often reversible in principle, and a light blur is defeated by simple sharpening. To remove something from an image, crop it out or paint over it solidly — do not rely on a blur.
Common uses
- Softening a background image behind text.
- Making a blurred placeholder for a page.
- Producing a frosted-glass effect.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I blur just one part of the image?
- Not here — this blurs the whole image. For hiding one area, crop it out or cover it solidly instead.
- Is blurring safe for hiding personal information?
- No. Blurred text and faces can often be recovered, and light blurs are easily reversed. Cover the area completely instead.
