About this tool
Recipes cross borders badly. A US cup is 236.6 ml, a metric cup is 250 ml, and UK tablespoons are 15 ml against the US 14.8 — small differences that matter for baking and rarely for anything else.
One thing this cannot do honestly is convert cups to grams. A cup is a volume; grams are weight, and the relationship depends entirely on the ingredient — a cup of flour is about 120 g, a cup of sugar about 200 g, a cup of water 236 g. Any tool that offers a single cups-to-grams number is guessing which ingredient you meant.
Common uses
- Following a US recipe with metric measuring jugs.
- Scaling a recipe up or down.
- Converting a tablespoon measure into millilitres.
Frequently asked questions
- How many tablespoons are in a cup?
- 16 US tablespoons make a US cup.
- How do I convert cups to grams?
- You cannot, without knowing the ingredient — grams measure weight and cups measure volume. Look up the density of the specific ingredient, or weigh it.
- Is a UK cup the same as a US cup?
- No. The metric cup used in the UK and Australia is 250 ml; a US cup is 236.6 ml. Both are listed.
