About this tool

Overtime is normally paid at a multiple of the base rate — one and a half for hours beyond the standard week, sometimes double for Sundays or public holidays.

What counts as overtime, and whether it must be paid at all, depends entirely on where you work and your employment status. In the US the Fair Labor Standards Act sets a 40-hour threshold for non-exempt employees; other countries differ, and salaried roles are often excluded. This calculates what you tell it; it does not know your local rules or your contract.

Common uses

  • Checking a payslip against hours worked.
  • Estimating pay for a week with extra shifts.
  • Comparing double time against time and a half.

Frequently asked questions

What does time and a half mean?
1.5 times your normal hourly rate for the qualifying hours. Double time is 2.0.
Am I entitled to overtime?
That depends on your country, contract and whether your role is exempt. This works out the arithmetic; it cannot tell you your rights.
