Processing: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your input and any file you open stay on your device — nothing is uploaded to a server.

How to use the jpg to png

  1. Choose your JPG file.
  2. Adjust the quality if the target format is lossy.
  3. Download the PNG file.

About this tool

Conversion happens in the page: the JPG file is decoded by your browser, redrawn, and re-encoded as PNG. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no queue, no size limit imposed by a server, and no copy of your image on someone else's machine.

PNG is lossless, so this stops further quality loss — but it cannot restore detail JPEG already discarded, and the file usually grows several times larger.

The image's pixel dimensions are unchanged — only the format and file size differ. To change the size as well, use the image resizer afterwards.

Common uses

  • Sending an image to software that will not accept JPG.
  • Reducing the file size of a JPG image.
  • Standardising a set of images on one format.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JPG file uploaded?
No. It is decoded and re-encoded by your browser on your device, which is why there is no wait and no size cap.
Does converting JPG to PNG lose quality?
The conversion itself is lossless — PNG stores every pixel exactly. Any loss already baked into the source stays there.
Are the dimensions changed?
No. The image keeps its pixel dimensions; only the encoding changes. Use the image resizer to change dimensions.
