About this tool

Pace is time divided by distance, shown per kilometre and per mile because races and training plans mix the two freely.

The projections assume you hold the same pace, which is the honest arithmetic rather than a prediction. Real race times fade over distance — a marathon at your 5K pace is not achievable for almost anyone — so treat longer projections as an upper bound on what that pace would give, not a target.

Common uses

  • Finding the pace needed for a target finish time.
  • Converting a treadmill speed into a pace.
  • Checking splits during training.

Frequently asked questions

What pace is a four-hour marathon?
About 5:41 per kilometre, or 9:09 per mile.
Why do my longer projections look too fast?
Because they hold your pace constant. Endurance fades with distance, so a real marathon is run slower than a 5K pace.
